Intercontinental Play-off Tournament : What Chances For Lionesses?

The national women’s team will need to beat Thailand tomorrow, February 18, 2023 in the semi-final before facing Portugal in the final four days later.

The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon will play against Thailand tomorrow February 18, 2023 in Hamilton in the play-off semi-final of the Intercontinental Play-off for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in New Zealand. For the past two weeks the Lionesses are fine-tuning their skills in New Zealand in order to put up the best result in the competition. The Lionesses arrived in Hamilton on February 14 and they had their first training session official competition site in Hamilton on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. Four days to the start of the ten-teams tournament, the squad was already complete with the arrival of some foreign based players who were absent since the beginning of the training session. 
Prior to their departure, the Indomitable Lionesses had as objective to secure a ticket for the World Cup. The dream seems to be far-fetched as the team has not been able to have enough time for adequate preparation ahead of the competition. The Lionesses have become les prolific in recent times. For over two decades the Lionesses of Cameroon were considered among the top best women’s teams in Africa but they have lost their position on the continental scene. The Lionesses were second behind Nigeria but they were unable to qualify for the World Cup during the AFCON in Morocco. They failed to reach the semi-finals of the 2022 AFCON for the first time in nearly 20 years and for a nation that made it to the eighth finals of the World Cup in 2015 in Canada and 2019 in France.
