MTN Elite One : UMS, Bamboutos Consolidate Lead

UMS of Loum Football Club continues to top group A of the Elite One classification table with 21 points. This is the outcome of the day 13 matches that took place in stadiums across the country last weekend. A total of eight matches were played with eight goals scored and two draws. Five were won at home and three away victories. From all indications, the Elite One championship has become tougher since the start of the second phase given an improvement in the performances of the teams. 
During last weekend matches, some teams played with a lot of determination due to good preparations while others failed to meet the expectations of their fans. UMS of Loum played a 1-1 draw with Aigle Royal of Menoua at the Bamendzi Stadium in Bafoussam. Colombe of Dja and Lobo lost 0-1 to visiting PWD of Bamenda at the Yaounde Ngoa-Ekelle Stadium on Sunday February 19, 2023. With three additional points, PWD has now moved up to the ninth position slightly above the relegation zone. They will need to continue with the same performance in their next game in order to better their position on the table. Still in Yaounde, Canon of Yaounde beat Avion Academy 2-0 making a total of five victories for the team this season. The Yaounde based team now occupies the second position with 20 points just one point behind the leaders.  In the same vein, Astres of Douala beat Gazelle of Garoua 1-0 at the Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua. Astres have now moved to the fourth position with 17 points ahead of Gazelle with 16 points. Astres will need to work hard in the next game on February 26, 2023 to secure their stay in the championship.
