Voter’s Cards : Distribution Begins Nationwide

Regional and Municipal Councillors nationwide have begun withdrawing their registration (voter’s) cards from Divisional Branches of Elections Cameroon.

Electors of the Senatorial election, comprising Regional and Municipal Councillors, have started withdrawing their registration cards across all ten regions of the country. This action follows a press release of the Director General of Elections on February 21, 2023 notifying the electors of the availability of their voter’s cards which can be collected at the Divisional Branches of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM). The distribution phase of voter’s cards to electors is governed by Section 226 of the Electoral Code. Going by the list of electors published by the elections management body, a total of 11,138 voter’s cards are available, comprising 10,271 for Municipal Councillors and 844 for Regional Councillors. “Registration cards shall be distributed by the divisional branches of Elections Cameroon, within the 20 days preceding the elections. Cards not distributed shall remain at the disposal of their holders until the close of the poll at the divisional branches of Elections Cameroon,” reads the aforementioned Section of the Electoral Code. Electors can therefore visit ELECAM Divisional Branch offices within working hours to gain possession of their voter’s cards which are produced at the biometric centre of ELECAM in Yaounde and despatched to the regions. A visit at some Divisional Branch offices in Yaounde was met with some electors withdrawing their voter’s cards.
