Ethiopia : Tigray TPLF Forms Interim Administration

The move which is in line with the Pretoria agreement was without the main opposition parties.

Leaders of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) have approved a document that outlines the composition of an interim administration for the Region. The document that was approved on Saturday, March 4, 2023, in the Tigryan Regional capital Mekelle, was without the three main opposition parties who are denouncing the TPLF domination. If the federal government validates the document, a new interim administration to oversee the Tigray regional state for the next six to 12 months, would see the light of day within the next weeks. According to the document, the TPLF will occupy the region’s presidency, cabinet, and the majority of regional offices. Among the various sectors that fall under this category are economics, finance, healthcare, agriculture, resource mobilization, infrastructure, land, and social services. 
Still in the new document, leaders of the former Tigray Defense Force (TDF) will be appointed to the roles of deputy regional president, security cabinet, security cluster, and rehabilitation. Tourism, transportation, industry, and water resources will be controlled by opposition parties. The justice, democracy, and science and technology will be headed by scholars in these domains. Other key subjects of debate during the discussions were the interim government’s goals, power allocation, and representation.
