2023 AFCON Qualifiers : Namibia Weakens Cameroon

The Indomitable Lions will have to wait for their last game against Burundi in September to know their fate after they were beaten by the Brave Warriors 1-2 yesterday in South Africa.

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have experienced a major drawback in their qualification journey to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations billed for January next year in Côte d’Ivoire. They now sit second in Group C with four points after they were beaten 1-2 by Namibia yesterday March 28, 2023 at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto, South Africa on match day 4 of the qualifiers. Namibia now occupies the top seat in Group C with five points.
Yesterday’s match was a typical example of the saying that the hunter became the hunted. The Lions that were expected to present a better picture after the 1-1 draw in Yaounde especially with return of Team Captain Vincent Aboubakar rather kept their fans in total grief. Perhaps, because the 4-2-4 scheme put in place by Head Coach Rigobert Song was nothing to write home about. With the absence of Christopher Wooh, Nicolas Nkoulou started the game at the Central defence. Malcom Bokele, Olivier Kemen and Ntcham who all started in Yaounde were kept on the bench while Vincent Aboubakar, Kunde Malong and Etta Bawak started.
The first half which ended on a 0-0 tie already presented signals that it was going to be a difficult day for the Lions. The 4-2-4 implied that Head Coach Rigobert Song wanted to be highly offensive and favour long balls. But the long balls and entire scheme all proved futile when the Lions could barely create real opportunities.
