2023 African Boxing Championships : Veritable Opportunity For Athletes

The remark was made by the President of the African Boxing Confederation, Bertrand Mendouga in a press conference on April 5, 2023 ahead of the June-event in Yaounde.

The President of the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC), Cameroonian-born Bertrand Mendouga has said that the African Boxing Championships to be staged in Cameroon from June 13-25, 2023 will be a veritable opportunity for athletes to better their ranking ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games. He was speaking during a press conference organised April 5, 2023 at the recently inaugurated building of the Confederation in Yaounde.
From the 33 countries in the Maputo African Boxing Championships last year, Bertrand Mendouga said he is expecting a maximum of athletes in Cameroon especially as the ranking mode will be put in place. “If we want to go to the Olympic Games, it is important to be part of the Yaounde- rendez-vous,” the AFBC boss stated.
Given that the Junes event will be the second African Championship that Bertrand Mendouga will be organising since he took office, he stated that it will be an opportunity for athletes to further fine-tune their skills and compete on a high level, as well as demonstrate their talents after several years of droughts.
