2023 U-23 AFCON : Gabon Disqualified

This is according to a CAF Disciplinary Commission decision which brings back hope for Cameroon pending the appeal of the Gabonese Football Federation.

Hope dawned on the Cameroon U-23 National Football Team when the Confederation of African Football’s Disciplinary Commission ruled on the issue of “age fraud” on the Gabonese player Floris Djave. The jury, in a copy of the decision dated May 16, 2023, found invalid the allegations of FECAFOOT on the eligibility of the player due to age fraud but found Gabon guilty of administrative errors in the registration of Floris Djave who featured in the two-legged qualifier matches against Cameroon in March 2023.
Following the regulations, the Commission, first, decided to eliminate the Gabonese team from the current edition of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations. They proceeded to suspending the Gabonese Football Federation (FEGAFOOT) from participating in the next edition of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations and finally to submit the case to the AFCON U23 Organizing Committee to replace the Gabonese U23 national team in the competition, in accordance with AFCON U23 regulations. 
It should be recalled that Cameroon had filled a complaint to CAF expressing reservations on the age of Floris Djave.
