Migration Challenges : Population Urged to Make Wise Choices

Stories of Africans who die in the Mediterranean Sea or along the desert on their way to seek greener pastures in Europe and America are bound. Pirate attacks and strict migration laws of most of the treasured countries have even made matters worse. To orientate African and to make wise choices, the Migrants Commission of the Association of Episcopal Conferences of Central Africa (ACERAC) is currently organizing a symposium on the theme: "Challenges and prospects for migration with a human face". The International Symposium who ran from the 13-15 of June, ended up with the publication of a guide on migration. The “pastoral guide for migration with a human face” is based on an update of multidisciplinary knowledge on migration and will benefit from the light of the Bible, the ethical principles, and the social teaching of the Catholic Church.
During the opening of the symposium on June 13 in Douala, the president of the Migrants Commission of the Association of Episcopal Conferences of Central Africa (ACERAC), His Excellency Bishop Samuel Kleda, reiterated that after independence most African economies didn’t emerge, leading to the suffering of the population. He added that the majority of African youths are unemployed and they see migrating to other countries as a means of survival. To fight against the phenomenon migrating under difficult conditions, he added, is a fight for all and not the church alone. As he acknowledges that many migrants die on that way.
