2023 AFCON : Qualifiers Nears Completion

After the fifth playing day that ended on June 20, more teams have qualified for the tournament, while some are yet to know their fate.

Six months to the kick off of the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire the composition of the competing teams is already clear. Most of the teams that will take part in the competition and those that will not are already known. After day five qualifiers that ended on June 20, 2023, the fate of several teams were sealed. 
Senegal, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Morocco, South Africa, Tunisia and hosts, Côte d’Ivoire, among others have already qualified. Globally, a total of 16 teams have secured their tickets for the biggest football even on the continent while some teams will have to wait for the last playing day to know their fate. Among the countries that have qualified there are a good number of Maghreb countries notably Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Algeria. It is yet to know if Libya will be absent. Senegal and South Africa are the countries south of the Sahara that are well represented not forgetting Mali who are regulars in the final phase of the AFCON. Five time cup holders Cameroon will have to wait for the last playing day to know if they will be present in Cote d’Ivoire. 
As far as the organisation is concerned, preparations are going on as expected. The official date of the draw for the AFCON has already been announced for October 12, 2023.
