2023 National Interpools : Union Abong-Mbang Gets First Win

The representative of the East region defeated Sporting FC of Maroua 1-0 yesterday July 17, 2023 at the Olembe Annex A Stadium in their day 2 Pool A encounter.

The flagbearers of the East Region, Union Sportive of Abong-Mbang (USA) have recorded their first victory in the ongoing National Interpools in Yaounde. The club defeated the representatives of the Far North, Sporting Football Club of Maroua, 1-0 yesterday July 17, 2023 at the Olembe Annex A Stadium. The game was the first day 2 match in Pool A of the ongoing tournament. 
USA’s victory yesterday meant that they had climbed to four points after their goalless draw against Isle of Hope Sports Academy of Limbe in the opening game of the National Interpools. Meanwhile, Sporting Football Club that were exempted from the first playing day have zero points following yesterday’s defeat in their first match of the competition.
The Union-Sporting game presented a picture of two clubs determined to take home the three points. Just like in their first match, the "Americans" of Abong-Mbang had a majority of the ball possession in the first half. They mounted pressure against their opponents and finally got the winning goal at about the 21st minute of play. The goal was netted by Johnson Souman Berry. Moments later, he almost made it 2-0 but his goal was denied for an offside position. 
During the last minutes of the first half, the boys from Maroua woke up from slumber and started causing problems to their opponents. They had several opportunities but could not equalise. Nonetheless, they showed signs that the second half will be different.
