2023/2024 CAF Confederation Cup : No Cameroonian Representative

A list published July 23, 2023 leaves Bamboutos of Mbouda out after the club failed to obtain the CAF License. Coton Sport shall represent Cameroon at the Champions League.

It became official on Sunday July 23, 2023 that Cameroon will not be represented at the next edition of the CAF Confederation Cup. The African Football governing body published the list of engaged clubs in this competition with no single Cameroonian club. 52 clubs representing 41 Member Associations will compete in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup, the confederation revealed.
Bamboutos of Mbouda was expected to represent the country in this competition but failed to obtain the CAF License due to alleged irregularities including the non-payment of players’ salaries and other benefits. Following their denial of CAF Club licence, the club had reportedly opened a procedure at the confederation hoping that something will be done to regularise their situation. In a letter dated July 22, 2023 making waves on social media, Bamboutos of Mbouda wrote to the confederation explaining the situation concerning the CAF Club licence. “This note is for us an update on the actual administrative situation of our application for the CAF Licence. It also expresses the new position of the licensor who wishes to re-examine our application which should allow us to have optimal preparation and participation in the CAF Interclub Competitions 2023/2024 season,” a portion of the note read.
