2023 Women’s Afrobasket : Cameroon Sails To Quarterfinals

They finished top in Group B after winning their second consecutive game against Guinea 70-50 yesterday July 30, 2023 in Kigali-Rwanda.

The only Cameroonian woman currently playing in the Women NBA, Dulcy Fankam is not with the Lionesses at the 2023 Women’s Afrobasket Championship ongoing in Kigali, Rwanda but her blessings are with the team that has qualified for the quarterfinals. In a message dated July 28, 2023, the Lioness said she was honored with the invitation to defend the colours of Cameroon at the competition but she could not be part of the expedition due to club duties. 
With all confidence, Cameroon took to the court same July 28, 2023 in their opening game against Mozambique where they surprised many by winning 55-53. They proceeded to record their second win in the group stage against Guinea 70-50 to clinch the top spot in Group B. Being first means that the Lionesses have qualified for the quarterfinals stage of the competition.
The slim two-point difference in the Lionesses opening match against Mozambique tells of how intense the game was. A scenario that was highly expected given that Mozambique were considered one of the favorites of the competition. It took all the composure and craft of Monique Makani to adjust the winning shot from the three-point line to give Cameroon its first win against Mozambique since the 2015 FIBA Women's Afrobasket.
