Kenya-Nigeria : Teams With Long History

The duo that have met in three previous finals of the competition play the quarterfinals today August 22, 2023 at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex.

Nigeria have to be psychologically upright as they take on Kenya this evening at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex within the framework of the quarterfinals of the ongoing Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship. This is because on paper, the Kenyans are tougher. First of all, Kenya is the most capped team in this competition with nine titles and secondly, the team finished the group phase of the ongoing competition unbeaten, amassing a total of 15 points to top Group B. On the other hand, Nigeria have never won any women’s African Nations Volleyball title and only struggled to qualify for the quarterfinals of this edition finishing fourth in Group A with seven points. None the less, the Nigerians are not no-names, they have reached the finals of the competition four good times but were unfortunately beaten. Three of these finals (1995, 1997, 2005) were against Kenya. The Nigerians might just want to revenge these three crucial defeats.
In the ongoing competition, Nigeria lost 2-3 (16-25, 18-25, 25-23, 26-24, 6-15) to Algeria...
