Women’s 2024 AFCON Qualifiers : Lionesses Deepen Preparations

After their training in Mbankomo the team will be in Douala as from today, September 18, 2023 to continue camping.

The national women’s football team will take on the Harambee Starlets of Kenya in their away leg of the 2024 TotalEnergies Women’s AFCON qualifiers on September 22, 2023 at the Bepanda Omnisports Stadium in Douala. Ahead of the double confrontation with Kenya, preparations have reached high gear in the Lionesses’ den. For the past two weeks the players have been training intensively at the CAF Excellence Centre in Mbankomo under the supervision of the head coach Jean Baptiste Bisseck. 
As part of the preparations the Lionesses equally played friendly matches with some teams in the local championship. The Lionesses played their last friendly match against a regional women’s selection on Friday September 15, 2023. The Lionesses beat a regional women’s football team 3-1. That was followed by a warm-up training session on Saturday September 16, 2023. After their training in Mbankomo the Lionesses will be in Douala as from today September 18, 2023 where they will continue preparing before the match on Friday September 22, 2023. The squad will undergo a number of changes with the arrival of foreign-based players and the departure of some local players who were in the training camp. The final list of players who will defend the colours of Cameroon in the competition will be made public in the days ahead. Sources close to the team say goalkeeper Ange Bawou will be absent in the squad following her suspension in the World Cup qualifier match against Portugal in February in New Zealand and Australia.
