Strong Democratic Signal

 Despite a few skirmishes registered in some areas, many observers say it was a hitch-free exercise. The voting exercise which is the first to be conducted against a background of peace has been lauded by many stakeholders within and beyond the country. The first on the congratulatory list is the National Electoral Commission (NEC). Under the auspices of the President of the Commission, Davidetta Browne-Lansanah, the Commission was up to task. From the registration, deployment of electoral materials and voting, the Commission exhibited a mastery of the process. The ongoing vote count by the Commission and the declaration of results, is the last phase of a process that goes a long way to consolidate the country’s democracy after several decades of back-to-back civil wars.
Incumbent President George Weah is also to thank for revamping the democratic process. For the past six years, he has enabled Liberians of all walks of life to have every reason to hope for a better future. Apart from stabilizing the country, he has drastically improve the educational system. Eighteen other presidential candidates also merit a pat on the back as they did respect the rules and regulations of the election campaign.
