Cameroon–Korea Cooperation : Alumni Donates Toilets, Hand-washing Stations

Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Alumni Association Cameroon dubbed KAAC, on Friday, October 13, 2023 in Nanga Eboko in the Upper Sanaga Division of the Centre Region, inaugurated and donated modern toilets and hand washing stations to the Government French-speaking Nursery School of Plateau and the Government Bilingual Nursey School of Plateau. The event aimed at commemorating the 2023 Global Handwashing Day (October 15) and World Toilets Day (November 19). It was equally a platform to raise awareness on hand hygiene in a bid to continue the fight against Covid-19, and other preventable illnesses such as diarrhoea and pneumonia which contribute to the death of 1.7 million children worldwide yearly. The heavily attended event was an opportunity to reinforce cooperation between Cameroon and the Republic of South Korea. 
The Representative of the Country Director of KOICA, Hyemin Chung, said the ceremony was an occasion to enhance and further strengthen the friendly relations that exist between Cameroon and the Republic of South Korea. She revealed that access to clean environment is not only a basic need, but a necessity to sustain all forms of life in the world. “Growing up in a clean and safe environment is every child’s right. Access to clean water, basic toilets, and good hygiene practices not only keep children thriving, but also give them a healthier start in life,” Ms Chung noted. She reaffirmed KOICA’s readiness and willingness to collaborate with KAAC in its venture to ameliorate the living conditions of communities in Cameroon while calling on all KOICA Cameroon fellows to mobilize and be part of this great adventure.
