Democracy, Development In Africa : Book Highlights Stakes, Opportunities In Governance

An overview and appraisal of the social, cultural, political and economic situation of contemporary Africa has been captured in a book published by Enow Abrams Egbe, Board Chair of the Electoral Board of Elections Cameroon. Titled “Development and Democracy in Africa; Stakes and Opportunities In Governance: A Critical Reflection on Democracy, Leadership and Nation Building In Africa,” the document was presented to the public on December 19,2023 during a book launch in Yaounde. While underlying factors that account for Africa’s dire situation of underdevelopment, the author questions how Africa can meet up with the challenges of democracy, development and leadership, as well as the reconciliation of political stability in a global world. It is a 412-page document divided into four chapters. On the motivation behind the key concepts in the book, Enow Abrams Egbe said it stems from his desire to contribute to good governance policies and debates by making known the stakes and opportunities in democracy and development on the continent.

Reviewing the book, renowned international relations specialist and scholar, Prof Jean Emmanuel Pondi, noted that it is a practical guide to contemporary issues affecting the African continent, which indeed needs to be adequately looked as the leaders embark on the path of development.
