Namibia : Targeting Round 16

Even though the Brave warriors have not reached the knockout stages of the competition, they are determined to make history in Côte d’Ivoire.

Namibia will be participating in the Africa Cup of Nations for the fourth time. The other three participations were in 1998, 2008 and 2019. During these participations, the team did not go beyond the group stage. That did not discourage the Brave Warriors who are determined to make history in Côte d’Ivoire. Namibia had an inconsistent 2023 as they won two games in the six they played, lost two and drew two. They qualified for the AFCON by finishing second to Cameroon by winning five points from a possible 12.
The Namibian national team arrived in Ghana on Thursday, December 29, 2023 to prepare for the AFCON. The training camp is taking place in Western Legon, Accra. The team will play two matches against two local clubs in Ghana and an international friendly as well before leaving for Côte d’Ivoire for the AFCON. One of the clubs is Legon Cities FC. The two sides were expected to face each other on January 2, 2024. The name of the second club was yet to be announced at press time. For the international friendly to be played by Namibia, they are in advanced negotiations with Ghana. The friendly encounter, if finalised, will serve as a morale booster and provide much-needed match experience for both teams before the tournament. The squad, initially comprising 28 players, will undergo selection scrutiny by Head Coach Collin Benjamin, who aims to finalize a list of 23 before the team’s departure for Ivory Coast.
