National Interclub Championship : New Season Opens In Yaounde

Over 300 athletes from across the country took part in the competition in Olembe last weekend.

The Olembe Sports Complex in Yaounde was the venue of the kick off of the 2024 athletics season last weekend. Organised by the Cameroon athletes Federation, the competition brought together over 300 athletes from clubs across the country. The competition unfolded in the men’s and women’s categories. The athletes competed in several disciplines in the track and field. The competition was equally an opportunity for athletes to begin seeking for points for qualification for major international competitions notably the African Athletics Championship in Cameroon and the All Africa Games in Ghana. It was equally an opportunity to detect young talents and for other aspiring athletes to develop interest in the sports. 
The athletes put up remarkable performances. The competition saw an improvement in the performances of young athletes. Moudio François (AIA) stunned spectators when he jumped a height of 2.13 in the men’s high jump. In the men’s 100m, young athlete like Itoungue Claude (FAP) was the fastest in 10.13 while in the women’s 100m, Tedega Andjock (AIA) was the winner finishing the race in 11.87. Claude Itoungue equally won the men’s 200m race in 20. 31. In the women’s 200m, Njuh Nsella (FAP) was the first in 24.51. In the men’s 5000m, TCHOGAH Pierre (FAP) was the first in 15.18.69 and in the women’s 5,000m NGONG Sylveria (INJS) won the race in 18.03.40. Ngong Sylvera also won the women’s 10,000m race. In the men’s 10,000m TCHOGAH Pierre (FAP) finished the race in 31.53.5. In the men’s 10km walk Akamse Mbah (FAP) finished the race in 1.52.29 and in the women’s 10km walk Taykio Hamadou (FAP) was the best in 1.01.033.
