African Men’s Handball Championship : Cameroon Among Top Ten Teams

The 26th edition of the competition rounded off in Cairo on Saturday January 27, 2024.


The Cameroon men’s handball team put up a remarkable performance at the 26th edition of the Men’s African Handball Championship that ended at the Cairo International Stadium in Egypt, on Saturday January 27, 2024. Even though the Lions failed to qualify for the quarterfinals, they played the Presidents Cup. They qualified for the final of the President’s Cup after they beat Gabon in the semi-finals 28-21 in a Zone IV duel. 
During the final that took place on Friday January 26, 2024, Cameroon lost to Nigeria 25-33. It was an opportunity for the Lions of Cameroon to improve on their ranking in the Confederation of African Handball (CAHB). Nigeria finished on the ninth spot and Cameroon tenth. Egypt finished overall winners after they beat Algeria in the final 29-21. It was the ninth trophy for Egypt. With this third consecutive triumph, the Egyptians validate their ticket for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, while Algeria and Tunisia, who won earlier against Cape Verde (35-28), will play in a qualifying tournament (TQO) in March. 
At the end of the competition, Coach Placide Tagne said he thinks that as far as results are concerned, the Lions did not attain their objective in this 26th edition of the African Senior Men’s Handball Championship. “We were aiming for eighth place. Unfortunately, we finished 10th. This poor performance was due to a number of technical difficulties.
