MTN Elite Play-offs : Contours Unveiled

This was during a press briefing organised yesterday March 12, 2024 at the FECAFOOT headquarters in Yaounde.

The 2024 MTN Elite Play-offs which constitute the prime-time of the championship rumbles of this weekend. As momentum gathers towards this event that is expected to run from March 15-April 21, 2024 in three regions, Centre, Littoral and West, the Cameroon Football Federation thought it wise to give insides to put everyone on the same page and to officially launch the jamboree. A press briefing to this effect was organized yesterday March 12, 2024 at the FECAFOOT headquarters in Yaounde. The Secretary General of the federation, Blaise Djounang gave the kicker and other key actors intervened to throw light on the main points.

Dates and Places
This phase of the competition begins with the MTN Elite One Play-offs Down which starts from March 15- April 21, 2024 in Yaaounde. The stadiums retained are Ngoa-Ekelle, Mfandena, Olembe annex A and B. What follows is the MTN Elite Two Play-offs Up and Down; that are expected to take place in the West Region precisely in Bafoussam, Mbouda and Bafang from March 16- April 7, 2024. The MTN Elite One Play-off Up is the last to kick-off on March 17-7 April, 2024 in Douala precisely in Mbappé Léppé, Bepanda annex and Reunification stadiums. But according to Frank Happi, Director of Development at FECAFOOT, there are doubts over the use of the Reunification Stadium perhaps due to rehabilitation works ahead of the African Athletics Championships.

Format
The Play-offs will be played in one leg. As for the MTN Elite One Play-off Up, the teams involved will play each other to determine the champion. According to the President of the Transitional Professional Football Council (CTFP), Pierre Boudjiko, at the end, the first and second teams might play the African Champions League if they fulfill the conditions stipulated by CAF. As for the MTN Elite One Play-off down, the teams involved will play each other to determine the five teams that will drop to elite two. Concerning the MTN Elite Two play-off Up, the qualified teams play each other to produce the two teams that will move up to elite one just like the play-off down will produce the three teams that will drop to the regional league.
