On the occasion of the World Oral Day yesterday March 20, 2024, individuals highlighted how they take care of their teeth to curb infections.
Yannice and Rayan are ten and nine years old respectively. They stay with their mother at the Damas neighbourhood in Yaounde. Each day, they are obliged to brush their teeth twice, much to their dismay. Their mother says she has never visited a dentist and does not have money to ensure that her boys visit a dentist at least once a year. As such, she makes sure that they brush their teeth thoroughly each day when they wake up from bed and at night before going to bed. This is the modus operandi used by the mother of Yannice and Rayan in ensuring that her children observe a proper oral hygiene.
As Cameroonians observed the World Oral Health Day yesterday March 20th, inhabitants in the city of Yaounde threw more light on how they take care of their teeth so as to reduce the burden of oral diseases, which affect individuals, the health systems and economies everywhere. Amongst the many people, Cameroon Tribune encountered, majority say they brush their teeth twice a day with tooth paste while changing their tooth brush after every three months. Nchang A. is one of those who says because of the sensitive nature of her teeth, she does not just brush them twice a day, but she also uses a particular toothpaste to care for them all in a bid to curb tooth-related diseases.
There are also those who use salty water to wash their teeth, Aicha N., another inhabitant in Yaounde says when she feels some irritation within her teeth, she uses warm salty water to brush her teeth and floss daily to remove dental plaque. She does same for her children. Luke K. is one of those who brush his teeth just once a day. He says he does not have problems with mouth odour or tooth decay.
