North West : Security Upon School Resumption Guaranteed

This was during a preparatory meeting for the new academic year on September 4 in Bamenda.

The Governor of the North West Region, Adolphe Lele Lafrique has reassured parents that measures have been taken to ensure security during the resumption of schools for new academic year on September 9, 2024. The Governor spoke after a preparatory and security meeting in the conference hall of his office in Bamenda on Wednesday September 4. He called on parents, opinion leaders and communities to mobilise to send their children to school and accompany the security forces to ensure security saying ‘if you see something, say something’. The Governor said instructions have been given to make sure no illegal school functions in the Region whether they are the so-called community schools or school pending authorisation from government to go operational. He frowned at the practice where some teachers recommend their own books in schools so as to make money. The various stakeholders in the educational sector in the Region took turns to present a report on the state of preparedness for school resumption beginning with the Regional Delegate for Secondary Education, Basic Education, Communication, the various heads of confessional schools including the Catholics, Presbyterians, Baptist and Full Gospel denominations as well as Islamic Education. It came out from the presentations that all were ready as the various sectorial preparatory meetings had taken place, the school campus cleaned, teachers recruited or advised to be at their duty posts before the DDay on September 9, 2024 so that classes can begin effectively on the first day of the 20242025 academic year.
