« La promotion du bilinguisme passe par des réformes institutionnelles fortes. En effet, on ne peut pas, dans le secteur de l’éducation, avoir tous les acteurs qui soient francophones. Il se trouve que tous les ministres qui interviennent dans le domaine de l’éducation au Cameroun sont francophones, alors qu’on sait qu’il existe deux sous-systèmes. Donc, il est question de commencer par réparer cette inégalité. C’est pour cela que nous appelons le gouvernement à implémenter véritablement le bilinguisme par des décisions de grande portée, comme la désignation des responsables qui doivent mener cette politique au plan éducatif ».

“The effective promotion of bilingualism should start with the provision of syllabuses at nursery, primary and secondary school levels. At the local level, linguistics centres should be created to reinforce the studying and practice of bilingualism. Seminars should also be organised at the level of villages to teach people on the basics in English and French languages to enable them use the two languages in their daily activities. I believe that bilingualism should be practised in all fields. Indeed, we need bilingual teachers’ training schools at all levels. The members of the National Commission on Bilingualism and Multiculturalism should respect the missions of the structure and their terms of reference. We hope they will be frank people as many commissions have failed Cameroonians.”
