Standing Committees Ready

The putting in place of the nine Standing Committees in the Senate and National Assembly will pave the way for effective work in Parliament

The scrutiny and adoption of subsequent bills and other parliamentary work will in the coming days start for the 2017 legislative year in Cameroon’s two Houses of Parliament which are the Senate and the National Assembly. After the election of the permanent bureaus to pilot the affairs of the Senate and National Assembly on March 21, 2017, the Standing Committees whose mission is to first of all scrutinize bills before they are tabled in the plenary sittings for adoption have already been constituted.
After his re-election as the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril invited all the parties represented in the House to forward to him the names of their members to make up the various Standing Committees. The list of members of the committees were put up in the House yesterday and reliable sources indicate that each committee will elect its bureau today. The Committee on Education, Vocational Training and Youth elected a new chairperson, Hon. Ngahane considering that the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) MP from the Sanaga Maritime constituency, Hon. Joseph Mboui died and preparations are underway for his burial.
