Bamenda: New Auxiliary Bishop Commissioned

Prime Minister Philemon Yang represented the Head of State at the crowd-pulling Episcopal ordination on March 25, 2017

March 25, 2017 was a great day for the Catholic Church in Cameroon more especially to the Christians of the Bamenda Arch diocese.  The event was the episcopal ordination of the new auxiliary Bishop of the Bamenda arch diocese Right Reverend Michael Miabesue Bibi.  Christians came out in their numbers from far and near, from the different parishes in the North West region and beyond.  The venue was the St. Joseph Metropolitan Cathedral big Mankon in Bamenda.  The Head of State was represented by the Prime Minister Philemon Yang.  The event that saw the participation of the representative of the Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea was also attended by all the 35 Bishops in Cameroon.
The ceremony gave an opportunity for the Christians to sing, dance and praise God Almighty and Pope Francis for appointing Bishop Michael Miabesue Bibi as the auxiliary Bishop of Bamenda. In his homily, the Archbishop of Bamenda His Grace Cornelius Fontem Esua challenged the new auxiliary Bishop to be a defender of human rights and to lead God's flocks with the fear of the Lord. Archbishop Cornelius Fontem Esua told the new auxiliary Bishop to be ready to serve and not to be served adding that the work of an auxiliary Bishop is not a job of honour but an uncomfortable and demanding task. "In the church, authority does not mean power but service. You should be a teacher and herald of God's word. You should promote peace, truth, forgiveness and reconciliation," the Archbishop added.
