Domestic Gas : Filling, Marketing Begins In Bamenda

The Liquefied Petroleum Gas Filling Centre was officially commissioned on December 12, 2025.
Since Friday, December 12, 2025, the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Filling Centre located at the Bangshie neighbourhood of Bamendankwe in Bamenda 1 Subdivision in the North West Region has domestic gas available for marketers to get and sell to the Bamenda city population, that of the North West Region in general and neighbouring West Region. This follows the commissioning of the gas filling centre thereby enabling it to fill the various cylinder bottles and channel the precious product to distribution network from transportation to stocking and filling centre, transportation to distribution centres, then to petrol stations for wholesale and retailing and finally to consumers.
The start of the filling, distribution and marketing of gas from Bamenda comes as a big relief to the local population who have for some time now witnessed shortage in cooking gas supply leading to a hike in the price of the 12.5kg cylinder bottle of gas to between FCFA 10,000 to FCFA 15,000. During normal periods, the same bottle of gas in sold in the city of Bamenda at FCFA 8,500. Henceforth, with domestic gas made available in the filling centre is Bamenda, a 12.5kg bottle will be sold at the homologated price of FCFA 6,500. To translate words into concrete reality, after the commissioning of the facility, the symbolic selling started. North West Regional Governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique bought an empty bottle for FCFA 25,000 and other officials and local population bought the same quantity of gas for FCFA 6,500.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Director General of the Hydrocarbons Prices Stabilisation Fund (HPSF), Okie Johnson Ndoh, said that is the project owner for the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Filling Centre gave assurances to the local population as to government’s commitment.
