Reconstructing NW/SW : Steady Progress

A synopsis of the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North West and South West Regions for 2025 indicates achievements in the infrastructure and other sectors.

With the unfortunate crisis in the North West and South West Regions for some years now and as a measure of find lasting solutions, the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the two regions was instituted. This was a main recommendation of the Major National Dialogue that held in 2019 in Yaounde. 
Placed under the authority of the Prime Minister Head of Government, an organic framework for the implementation of the plan was established on April 3, 2020 and since then, activities at reconstructing and developing the crisis-affected regions, based on the three pillars of the plan (reconstructing destroyed infrastructure, revamping the economy and promoting social cohesion) have been carried out. A synopsis of the plan lays emphasis on three main pillars which include; reconstructing destroyed infrastructure, revamping the social economy and promoting social cohesion. Every year, since the putting in place of the plan, several activities are being implemented to improve the living conditions of those residing in these regions, and as a means of bringing back lasting peace and security. 
Overall statistics indicate the construction and rehabilitation of more than 50 schools containing more than 7,000 pupils, 20 health centres that care of more than 5,000 patients each, 19 water supply systems that provide water for more than 170,000 people in eight Divisions, supply of equipment to more than 2,400 farmers and fishermen, support to 47 cooperatives and rehabilitation of five Community Credit Funds, providing operational kits and financing 120 start-ups, reconstruction of Courts, multipurpose youth and women promotion  centres, bridges, roads and water points.
