Bafoussam: Municipal Police Take Oath Of Office

Some 14 municipals police of the Bafoussam City Council have been told that their main functions as professionals trained at the National School of Administration, (NASLA) Buea, are to help maintain public order, ensure and respect the rights of the citizens, promote sanitation and bring stability in the streets among hawkers and buyers. They were told to use their professional experiences to curb public disorder among stakeholders, hawkers and to promote development, eradicate poverty as well as increase economic growth. These appeals were made by the President of the Bafoussam Court of First Instance, Baimsong Emile, on 13 March 2026, while presiding at an oathtaking ceremony of some 14 newlyrecruited municipal police by the Bafoussam City Council. He reminded them of the decree that lays down the conditions binding municipal police of the solemn act of swearing-in, a pledge before assuming duties. Magistrate Baimsong told them that they are placed directly under the authority of the City Mayor, adding that their main functions are to fight issues relating to City Council disorder. He warned them to know that they must not perform the role of the Police or Gendarmerie, of maintaining peace and order. “You can only call in the police or gendarme to assist arrest a recalcitrant individual, because you are not mandated to arrest a citizen,” he noted.
