May 20 March-past: Police Perfects Steps

Under the supervision of the Secretary General of the General Delegation for National Security, Police Commissioner Dominique Baya, four squadrons of the Police rehearsed on May 8.
Beautiful! That is one word that can be used to describe the steps of the Police forces as they rehearsed on May 8, 2026 in Yaounde at the Omnisports esplanade. The rehearsals were supervised by the Secretary General of the General Delegation for National Security, Police Commissioner Dominique Baya. The rehearsals, Police authorities noted, are to ensure that observations made have been taken and will be executed such as body posture, arms position, footsteps and distance between the different squadrons. From the rehearsal, four squadrons of the Police corps will be participating at the May 20 march-past. As explained by the Commander of the National Police School, Police Commissioner Tang Enow Lawrence Oben, it will be a unique opportunity for the Police to show their prowess with regards to marching and to remind the population that the Police is always present. He added that it will also be an honour to marchpast in front of the President of the Republic, Commander-in Chief of Police Forces. As explained by the Police Commissioner, at the beginning of the Police detachment is the Special Squadron, which is made up of cadets from the National Advance Police School. Their steps are majestic and they parade with swords in hand. This kind of parade is called the Queen’s Royal Steps and is a demonstration of royalty. The next is the squadron in charge of Traffic Control which reminds citizens of the intervention of the Police on the public highway on a daily basis. “There, the level of force is still very low because you have to deal with people who have good morals,” says Police Commissioner Tang Enow Lawrence Oben.
