The town of Njinikom, nestled in the hills of the Boyo Division in Cameroon’s North West Region, marked the May 20, 2026 National Unity Day with a vibrant, peaceful, and deeply communal celebration centered on patriotism and social inclusion.
Residents turned out in massive numbers, transforming the local venue into a hub of civic pride and solidarity. The centerpiece of the day’s festivities was a colorful and carefully choreographed march-past. Various local groups paraded to demonstrate national cohesion, with an active and prominent participation from the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM party.
Leadership, Community Inclusion
The event was observed by key local authorities and community leaders, including Samuel Loh Yong, who serves as both the CPDM Section President and the Mayor of Njinikom. A major highlight of this year’s celebration was a strong, tangible emphasis on social solidarity and inclusivity. Organizers extended vital assistance to vulnerable groups by distributing support sticks and white foldable canes to visually impaired residents. An act framed as a core component of the day's message of national togetherness.
Smooth, Secure Celebration
The administrative oversight was led by the Divisional Officer, DO for Njinikom, Denis Akonjoh. Speaking after, DO Akonjoh highly commended the smooth organization of the event, describing the celebration as orderly, well-coordinated, and an outright success.
