Paving The Wider North West: The Quiet Resequencing Of Secondary Networks

Beyond the Ring Road, the tarring of some feeder roads in the region is imminent.

While public attention remains fixed on Donga Mantung Division, an important administrative resequencing of the wider North West road network has been instituted. With regional authorities shifting resources to prioritize population density over pre-existing map sequences.

Bamenda-Bafut-Wum Prioritized
In an interview with Cameroon Tribune Online breaking down the regional masterplan, Regional Delegate for Public Works, Nfor Cyprian, explicitly revealed that the government has put a hold on launching heavy tarring operations on the Misaje-Weh-Wum stretch of the Ring Road:
"We were supposed to tackle Misaje-Weh-Wum, but due to the pressure from Wum and in order to meet up with the population settlement, we are now finalizing studies for Bamenda-Bafut-Wum lots of the Ring Road construction. We intend to launch contracts for the three lots... studies have been completed. So, we'll skip Misaje-Weh-Wum for now. Nevertheless, we have a maintenance programme on the Misaje-Weh-Wum stretch."

Status Report
According to the North West Regional Delegation for Public Works, auxiliary networks are advancing across the region:

Matazem-Bamenda Portion
This critical entry point linking the North West to the West Region has seen highly successful execution. Nfor Cyprian confirmed, "Some of the stretches of the Matazem-Bamenda highway are now ready for reception. And I think there is much that is being done in terms of road infrastructure."

Bamenda Urban Crossing, Surrounding Stretches
Heavy machinery is fully active inside the regional capital, Bamenda. The project is designed to expand municipal lanes and prepare the city center for the influx of heavy commercial shipping coming off the Ring Road loop. Concurrently, the state is executing localized grading programmes elsewhere: "We are doing maintenance on the Bamenda-Ndop stretch of the Ring Road," Cyprian added.

Bamenda-Mbengwi Road Tarring
Long isolated by deep valleys, this strategic corridor has finally broken ground. The Regional Delegate confirmed: "Apart from the Ring Road, we have the programme to tar Bamenda-Mbengwi... and they're working on it."

Babungo-Oku-Misaje Road Project
While operating outside the immediate Ring Road boundary, this sector has received fresh state funding to restore connection to the historic Oku zone. The Regional Delegate verified: "The contract for the first lot of 22 km on the Babungo-Oku-Misaje road has been launched. This is not part of the Ring Road... (but) works are ongoing," Nfor Cyprian assured.
