Biomedical Diagnostic Laboratory: Foundation Stone Laid In Douala

The launching of the construction of a new diagnostic laboratory at the Japoma districthospital has taken place, reinforcingMTNs commitment to improvinghealthcare access through the 2026edition of its flagship Y’ello Carevolunteerism campaign. The foundation stone for the laboratory waslaid on Friday June 5 in the presenceof officials, traditional authorities,healthcare stakeholders, and MTNrepresentatives. The project is oneof several initiatives being implemented under this year’s Y’ello Caretheme, “Expand Equitable Healthfor Every Community,” which focuses on improving healthcare access in underserved and rural communities across Cameroon. The laboratory project comes at acritical time for Japoma. Populationgrowth in the locality has accelerated in recent years, particularlyfollowing the construction of theJapoma Sports Complex, increasingpressure on existing healthcare facilities and creating a need for improved medical infrastructure. Speaking during the ceremony, MTNCameroon CEO, Wanda Matandeladescribed Y’ello Care as a reflectionof the company’s commitment tocreating lasting social impact. “Y’elloCare is a powerful expression ofwho we are as MTNers, a purpose-led organization driven by the ambition to make a tangible and lastingdifference in people’s lives”, he said. Now in its 19th edition, the 21Days of Y’ello Care campaign mobilizes MTN employees and partnersto support community developmentprojects across the country. Beyondthe Japoma laboratory, the 2026campaign includes the installationof a teleconference system atDouala General Hospital, the renovation of the maternity ward atDjoungolo, and the equipping ofmaternity units in rural communities. According to MTN, the initiativecombines physical infrastructuredevelopment with digital healthsolutions aimed at improving healthcare delivery and expanding accessto essential medical services.
