The Cameroon General Certificate of Education examinations continued today June 22, 2026 after a two-week suspension over massive leak scandal.
The remaining phase of the 2026 Cameroon General Certificate of Education, GCE examinations officially recommenced this Monday, June 22, 2026, across the country. This crucial phase follows a high-stakes two-week suspension ordered by the Minister of Secondary Education, Prof. Nalova Lyonga, after the initial session was compromised by massive online leaks of examination questions. The restructured exam session is scheduled to run from June 22 through July 2, 2026.
All Is Well!
Reports from multiple examination centers highlight an atmosphere of absolute serenity, heavily fortified by sweeping new security measures designed by the GCE Board and the Ministry of Secondary Education to stamp out malpractice and restore institutional integrity.
Nationwide Mobilization, Data Coverage
The logistics and table of participation for the sessions, particularly in the North West Region, were closely monitored and made available courtesy of the Divisional Delegate for Basic Education for Donga Mantung Division, Mr. Tarlishi Oliver Yinyu. Across various regional sectors, school administrators noted an exceptional turnout, punctuated by zero tolerance for lateness and unprecedented surveillance mechanisms.
No Closed Shoes, More Eyes
At Summerset Bilingual College in Wokoko, Buea, the Principal, Mr. Yerima Samson Tata, confirmed that the session launched promptly at 8:00 AM without any hitches, featuring Advanced Level Geography and Ordinary Level Physics. Mr. Yerima highlighted the immediate enforcement of the Minister’s new directives at the school gates:
"The Minister instructed that candidates should wear sandals or slippers, no closed shoes. Anybody putting on closed shoes had to take them off at the gate."
In addition to the strict footwear regulations, surveillance has been significantly amplified. All campus cameras remain fully operational, and the ratio of invigilators has been heavily increased to maximize coverage. "Normally, there used to be a room that can take 40 candidates. 40 candidates was going in for two invigilators. But now, that 40 and 60 now have three invigilators," Mr. Yerima told Cameroon Tribune Online by phone from Buea. Noting that no cheating cases had been detected by the end of the morning session.
Punctuality, Serenity In North West Region
In the North West Region, administrators reported a highly organized take-off. Mr. Matfu Engelbert Mbang, Principal of Government Bilingual High School Nkambe (Donga Mantung Division), detailed a strict approach to candidate screening and scheduling. While a few candidates arrived tightly on the margin, Mr. Mbang emphasized that all candidates were safely inside the halls before the official 8:00 AM commencement bell. Preserving the serene atmosphere of the campus.
A similar status quo of total peace was observed at Baptist High School in Ndop (Ngoketunjia Division), where the Principal, Mrs. Ndzi Sarah Munji, affirmed that the newly deployed security protocols were functioning optimally, resulting in zero recorded cases of cheating or exam malpractice.
Order Restored
At Government Bilingual High School Santa (Mezam Division), the Principal, Mr. Ndepu Emmanuel, described the ambiance to Cameroon Tribune Online on phone as a state of "dead silence" and absolute focus. Mr. Emmanuel noted that the systematic change of examination papers has successfully restored total order:
"Now that the situation has been put under control, there's a lot of calm. At least, children are now writing what they will know - what they have been studying, not what they had fraudulently prepared to come and write." The institution also worked closely with local churches to ensure families were informed that candidates had to be checked in and fully seated by 7:30 AM.
Strict Penalties, New Secure Safes
In the political capital of Yaoundé, enforcement of the rules left no room for compromise. At the Pinnacle of Success Academy in Ekoumdoum, the Principal, Dr. Nalionge Maximillianus Ewoko, reported that everything went perfectly well, but confirmed that justice was not tampered with mercy for latecomers. One Advanced Level candidate arrived at approximately 7:50 AM - past the strict 7:45 AM deadline - and was barred from the morning session. Though permitted to return for the afternoon papers. Dr. Ewoko reassured the public that thorough body searches were executed seamlessly, and the campus remained completely free of malpractice.
Reduced Time For Question Distribution
Further fortifying the security chain, Christian Comprehensive High School, Nkolmbong, Etoudi, Yaounde introduced a revolutionary structural change to question paper distribution. The Principal, Mr. Keyaka Edward, revealed to Cameroon Tribune Online that a special ministerial delegation had already visited and vetted the center this Monday morning.
"The change we had this time is that we used to go to a catchment center to get questions. But this time, they brought the questions and kept in our safe," Mr. Keyaka explained. To eliminate the risk of early morning transit leaks, the on-site safes now utilize a dual-key protocol requiring both the Superintendent and the Chief of Center to simultaneously unlock them at exactly 7:50 AM before administering the papers at 8:00 AM.
So Far, So Good!
With zero initial reports of fraud, a ratio of one invigilator to thirty candidates, and real-time electronic and administrative oversight, the GCE Board aims to maintain this high baseline of academic security until the session concludes on July 2, 2026.
