Sustainable Development: Centre Region Receives Blueprint Document

The scheme handed on June 23, 2026, marks the seventh on the list of the Regional plans already developed and transferred to Regional Councils.

In a landmark ceremony held on June 23, 2026, in Yaounde, the Regional Territorial Planning and Sustainable Development Plan of the Centre Region (SRADDT-CE) was officially handed to the Regional Council of the Centre Region. The framework establishes a strategic blueprint designed to curb anarchic urbanization, transform local economies, and establish strict territorial governance across the region’s ten divisions. Appraising the relevance of the scheme, the Minister Delegate Charge of Planning at the Ministry of Economy, Planning, and Regional Development (MINEPAT), Paul Tasong, explained that the official handover marks a salient milestone in Cameroon's decentralised development agenda, moving the national guidelines outlined in the National Development Strategy (SND30) directly into local implementation. He added that the handover comes at a time when local municipalities face severe pressures from rapid city expansion and rising land disputes. Speaking at the ceremony, Vice-President of the Centre Region Council, Jean Claude Sanama Nkono, emphasised the necessity of the plan - “faced with the rapid expansion of cities and land conflicts, this tool aims to impose orderly and sustainable territorial governance," Sanama said.
