Education: Third Term Begins

Pupils and teachers have set strategies to succeed during this decisive school term.

Classes for the third and last term for the 2016/2017 academic year effectively began yesterday Monday April 17, 2017 nationwide. The usual bustling witnessed during early hours in the nation’s capital was felt yesterday morning as the majority of pupils, students and teachers paved their way to their various classrooms for effective teaching and learning.
Just like every Monday, students at the Lycee General Leclerc were on time at school to begin the decisive term. According to the Principal of the institution, Elisabeth Ntonga, students massively came to school on time despite the post Easter “hangover”. Elisabeth Ntonga said it was difficult to tell if students were coming from holidays because they appeared in the proper school attire and hairstyle with little or no late comers. The day started with a general assembly and the raising of the flag. During the general assembly, Lycee General Leclerc students were reminded of the challenges they face during the term which is not only short but will culminate with the writing of end-of-year as well as official examinations. Elisabeth Ntonga said the general assembly was an opportunity to present the best 30 students of the school and the last 30 students. Noting that official examinations begin with sports practical session next Monday, Elisabeth Ntonga said a special meeting with PTA teachers will take place tomorrow, Wednesday to fine tune preparations for official examinations. With only three weeks of classes, the Principal of Government Bilingual Practising High School (GBPHS) Yaounde, Mary Ayuketah, said meetings between the school administration and teachers are already taking place to evaluate the last term, discuss the way forward while ensuring that the academic and pedagogic programmes are effectively covered.
In a nutshell, students seem happy to be back to school for the final term. Those at the Saint Benoit Catholic Secondary School Mvolye-Yaounde were seen happily participating in sports lesson. The same scenario was seen in primary schools as pupils and teachers reported present in their various school premises. At about 9:00 a.m, Class One pupils at Government Primary School Efoulan, were fully active in a reading exercise. It was a normal day of classes at the school premises. The Headmistress of Group 1 B of the school, Nkoumou Marie Veronique epse Ndi Manga said out of the 396 pupils awaited, some 321 answered present. From all indications, teachers and students know what it takes to overcome this decisive term.

Mutsei Ziele: « I Will Take My Studies Seriously »
