Sustainable Mineral Transformation: Mining Projects Rebooted

The five schemes and reforms of the gold sector are expected to generate over FCFA 2,000 billion annually.

T he government of Ca- meroon has embarked on a new phase of mi- ning development with the launch of five major projects and reforms of the gold sector aimed to enhance transpa- rency, and increase contribution to the national economy. An- nouncing the schemes in Yaounde, yesterday July 15, 2026, during a press confe- rence chaired by the Ministry of Communication (MINCOM) and the Ministry of Mines, In- dustry, and Technological De- velopment (MINMIDT), Minister Rene Emmanuel Sadi said, the government is determined to transform mineral resources into real development out- comes by tilting policies to- wards industrial exploitation, improved traceability, secure public revenue, environmental protection, and increased par- ticipation of Cameroonian ope- rators. The new mining dynamic is anchored on five priority pro- jects: The Bipindi-Grand-Zambi and Kribi-Lobe iron projects, the Minim-Martap bauxite pro- ject with a projected 2.4 million tons of transformed aluminium this year, the Bidzar marble project, and the Colomine gold mining project. Additional pros- pects are being advanced at the Mbalam, Nkout, and Ngo- vayang iron ore deposits, as well as the Mborguene and Bi- bemi gold projects. In the short term, the revenue expected from these projects can be conservatively projected at more than FCFA 1,000 billion per year and in the medium and long term, the planned exploitation of minerals in three Regions can make it pos- sible to double the above men- tioned amount to FCFA 2, 000 billion per year.
