Transition In The Sacred Heights: Kom Fondom Mourns “Disappearance” Of Fon Ndzi Clement Mbain II

The Kom Fondom in Boyo Division, one of the most historical and culturally revered traditional institutions in Cameroon’s North West Region, has entered a period of deep mourning. This follows the “disappearance” (passing of its 15th Paramount Monarch), His Royal Majesty Ndzi Clement Mbain II.

Boyo SDO Issues Statement

According to an official statement on July 20, 2026 by the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO for Boyo Division, Menyong Gilbert Sunday, the Paramount Fon passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2026, in the royal palace in Laikom following a brief illness.

Extending condolences on behalf of the Minister of Territorial Administration and government, the Senior Divisional Officer offered deep compassion to the Royal Family, the Kom Traditional Council, and the entire Kom population. Urging the tribe to remain united and peaceful throughout the traditional transition.

Who Was Fon Ndzi Clement Mbain II?

Born in Sho, Belo Subdivision in Boyo Division, Fon Clement Ndzi’s journey to the throne was marked by a career in the Public Service and grassroots administration. He completed his early education at the local Catholic Primary School in Sho before attending secondary school in Mbengwi.

Long before assuming royal responsibilities, he gained early exposure to palace governance when he was appointed Private Secretary to Fon Njinabo II. This pivotal role gave him an intimate understanding of the Kom Palace’s intricate customs and administrative mechanics.

Education, Public Life

Seeking to deepen his knowledge in civil administration, he pursued studies in Community Development in Santa, Mezam Division of the North West Region. He subsequently served in local government administration across the Councils of Belo and Fundong, earning a reputation for his dedication to community development.

Traditional Preparation, Reign

In 2008, he retired from Public Service to take on the royal title of Bo Fuli, signaling a deeper involvement in the traditional hierarchy. Nine years later, in 2017 - following the end of the reign of Fon Yuh Nih Fintia Nkwain (Fon Vincent Yuh) - he was enthroned as the 15th Fon of Kom. Taking the royal name, Fon Ndzi Clement Mbain II.

"His reign represented crucial continuity for Kom people, bridging modern administrative service with the ancestral duties required of a custodian of tradition," noted a local administrative observer in Fundong.

Following the announcement of the transition by Kwifon (the sacred governing council of Kom), traditional diplomacy between key Fondoms moved swiftly into motion. On Monday, July 20, 2026, an enclosed royal message from the Kom Palace was officially presented to the Fon of Nso in Yaoundé by Nchitonkom.
