From Platform to Livelihood: What Yango Brought to the Cameroon International Tech Summit 2026

As official Mobility Partner of CITS26, Yango used the summit to show how a technology platform translates into earning opportunities, business opportunities and everyday services across Cameroon, backed by five years of local operations. YAOUNDÉ, CAMEROON

Conversations about Cameroon's digital future often focus on what technology could do. At the Cameroon International Tech Summit 2026 (CITS26), held from 15 to 17 October at the Palais des Congrès in Yaoundé, Yango brought a different contribution to the table: evidence of what a technology platform is already doing for thousands of Cameroonian drivers, transport companies and users.

Organised by Mountain Hub with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as official partner, CITS26 gathered government, investors, entrepreneurs and young innovators around one question: how can Cameroon turn talent and technology into sustainable economic opportunity? As the summit's official Mobility Partner, Yango answered with its own model.

Yango in Cameroon, by the numbers

Since 2021: operating in Douala and Yaoundé, with Bafoussam added in March 2025 150+ Cameroonian transport companies working with the platform as fleet partners 4 service categories: Eco, Comfort, Comfort+ and Moto Approximately 300 partner drivers reached through free safety training and health check days held with the Douala and Yaoundé city councils from 2025-2026 50+ participants at Yango's CITS26 partner masterclass The technology behind the service

During a fireside conversation on 15 October, Dr. Clovis Pilla, Country Manager of Yango Cameroon, explained the platform model behind these figures. Yango does not own or operate vehicles. Its technology receives ride requests, matches them with available independent partners and coordinates each trip, while the service itself is delivered by Cameroonian drivers and transport companies.

This distinction is central to Yango's role in the economy. Because the platform provides digital infrastructure rather than cars, value is created locally: in the earnings of partner drivers, in the growth of fleet companies, and in a more convenient way for residents to move around their cities.

From conversation to concrete opportunity

Yango's second contribution turned the discussion into a practical pathway. Dr. Pilla led a masterclass on becoming a Yango partner driver or fleet partner, attended by more than 50 participants. The session covered onboarding steps, required documentation and how profitability works for both independent drivers and fleet owners.

Participants' questions centred on two points: the onboarding steps and documents required, and what kind of business they could realistically build. Those questions reflect the summit's wider agenda on youth employment and entrepreneurship. For many young Cameroonians, a platform partnership is an accessible entry point into the digital economy, provided they meet the regulatory requirements in force: a vehicle, the required licences and documents (transport licence, insurance, technical inspection and carte bleue) and a smartphone. Every partner must also pass Yango's verification before taking a first trip.

The fleet model goes further. Cameroonian entrepreneurs such as YFLEET, Smart Express and BestFleet Auto, all recognised at the first Yango Drivers & Partners Awards in January 2026, have built transport businesses that employ drivers and expand their own fleets through the platform.

A model built with partners and institutions

Yango's presence in Cameroon extends beyond the app. In 2025, the company partnered with the Douala and Yaoundé city councils to organise safety awareness and free health check days for partner drivers, combining training on in-app safety features with preventive care. Recognition programmes such as the annual Awards and the International Drivers' Day celebration reward professionalism and service quality on the ground.

Beyond mobility, Yango Group also invests in the next generation of Cameroonian tech talent. Through its support for the Technovation Challenge in Cameroon, a global programme that empowers girls through technology and entrepreneurship education, 116 girls developed their own app prototypes with the guidance of mentors. The initiative speaks directly to CITS26's focus on youth, technology and innovation.

Commenting on Yango's participation, Dr. Clovis Pilla said:

"Technology has value when it changes something concrete in people's lives. In Cameroon, our platform connects users to the services they need while giving thousands of drivers and more than 150 local transport companies a way to grow their activity. CITS26 was an opportunity to show how this model works and to open the door to those who want to join it. Innovation matters most when people can understand it, use it and build on it."

Turning digital potential into practical value

CITS26 closed with a call to connect Cameroon's talent and ambition with the partnerships, financing and market access needed to produce results. Yango's contribution illustrated one answer to that call: a platform that is already turning technology into earnings, enterprise and everyday convenience. As Cameroon's digital economy grows, Yango intends to keep making that link visible, measurable and open to new partners.
