The Office of the Public Independent Conciliator (OPIC) for the South West has called for stronger collaboration between economic operators and council services.
T he appeal was made during a sensitisation seminar held in Buea on July 22, 2026, on the theme: “Office of the public Inde pendent Conciliator, Fostering col laborative governance between the council and economic operators of Buea Municipality as a pathway to better service delivery’’. The meeting brought together offi cials of Council services, market mas ters, municipal police officers, traders, transporters and other business ope rators. Participants were sensitized on OPIC’s mandate, the council’s role in managing markets, motor parks and urban transport, as well as the rights and responsibilities of traders. Participants were reminded of the need to comply with council regulations, pay statutory taxes and fees, and make proper use of public facilities. The Public Independent Conciliator (PIC) for the South West, Telelen Dorothy Motaze, said the initiative was aimed at improving dialogue between economic operators and council authorities. She noted that many misunderstandings arise from ignorance of existing regulations and expressed hope that participants would pass on the information to members of their various associa tions.
