Cocoa Production, Sales: Forum To Empower Producers Underway

P rior to the launch of the 2026/2027 cocoa season, producers and stakeholders in the cacao sector met in Yaounde yesterday, August 5, 2026 to chart collective solutions to pro­ blems plaguing the sector. According to Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, the ceremony en­ ables strategic and technical industry actors of the sector to review the past season, guided by government guidelines and plan for the new sea­ son. In his inaugural speech, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, explained that this year would exceptionally feature a two-day collective session to outline potential solutions to the main chal­ lenges afflicting the industry such as market volatility; discriminatory income flow; product quality; EU deforestation policy; reduction of income gap bet­ ween producers and other players in the supply chain, amongst others. The sector in Cameroon, whose end of the 2025-2026 season recorded a price peak of FCFA 2,850 and mini­ mum of FCFA 2,750 per kg, the Mi­ nister revealed “amidst several bot­ tlenecks, has the collective capacity of transforming over 250,000 tons of cocoa beans locally.
