Digital Solutions for the Blind: IGB Team Innovates Smart Glasses

A group of five technology stu­ dents from the Polytechnique University in Douala, during the 2025 edition of the Digital Innovation week and the Presidential Special ICT Award, lifted the noble 1st Prize of the contest for innovating the Intelli­ gence glass for the Blind (IGB). Made up of Engineer Mankhed Asah Agha, Ndeh Paul, Mohammed Salim, Ndassi Riostel, and Vimkou Mercedes, the team grew from learning how to create a successful start-up in Came­ roon, registering a company to des­ igning an electronic product ready for market, to creating prototypes and 3D modelling that solve real world pro­ blems. The team whose main objective was to create a device that enables a sigh­ ted guide to communicate spatial in­ formation to a blind person has since 2025 delved into in-depth research working with visually impaired per­ sons in Bulu Blind centre in Buea and “Ici et Là Bas” Center for the Blind, in Douala to complete a three phased test process for the Artificial intelli­ gence backed glasses.
