Buea: Sacrifices Of Fallen Soldiers Remembered

D efence Forces in the Buea garrison, have paid tribute to fallen military personnel whose sa­ crifices contributed to the defence and security of Ca­ meroon. The commemoration of Remembrance Day, obser­ ved every August 14, was established by Presidential Decree No. 538/CAB/PR of August 27, 2008. The day commemorates Cameroon’s recovery of the Bakassi Pe­ ninsula and honours soldiers who lost their lives in the defence of the nation. The solemn occasion on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the 21st Motorised Infantry Battalion brought together military per­ sonnel to remember com­ rades who fell in various thea­ tres of operation, notably in Bakassi, the fight against Boko Haram in the Far North, and ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in the North-West and South-West Regions. In a prayer for the fallen while giving his address, the Re­ gional Delegate for Ex-Ser­ vice Men and War Victims, Colonel Ateba Léonard Josué, called on Almighty God to re­ ceive into His glory those who gave their lives for the Fatherland, while granting comfort and strength to their families.
