Integrated Conservation Programme: 66% Execution Rate Recorded

This was revealed during the fifth ordinary steering committee session chaired by Minister Hele Pierre, yesterday in Soa (Yaounde).

S teering committee mem- bers of the integrated ma- nagement of Cameroon's Forest Landscape in the Congo Basin of Cameroon project (10287 Cameroon GEF 7 CBSL IP Project) met in Yaounde yesterday August 19, 2026, for the 5th ordi- nary session of the steering com- mittee to evaluate the four-year implementation phase and plan for the completion phase. The session chaired by the Minister of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development, Hele Pierre focused on evaluating the fourth-year Budgeted Annual Work Plan (BAT 4) and approving the roadmap for BAT 5 slated for July 2026 to June 2027. Since its launch on April 28, 2022, the initiative has improved the ma- nagement efficiency of 1.19 mil- lion hectares of protected areas. Minister Hele Pierre highlighted that "this session offers the oppor- tunity to rigorously assess four years of execution, consolidate the programme's governance, and for- mulate strategic directions capable of optimizing impact on the envi- ronment while ensuring national ownership of this structuring pro- ject." He added that key achieve- ments include the validation of land use plans for Ngoyla and Min- tom; combined carbon sequestra- tion of approximately 6.05 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent; and the planting of nearly 16,000 trees across 34 hectares of degraded land Beyond ecological preservation, the programme has directly rea- ched over 40,000 beneficiaries across the Campo Ma'an-Rio, Tri- National-Dja-minkebe-Odzala, and Sangha Tri-national landscapes, generating ove...
