Cameroonian Diaspora Youth: From Conversation To Action

The global conference and 2026 award ceremony of the association took place recently in Washington D. C.

C ameroonian Youth Excellence took centre stage in Wash­ ington, D.C. last week as the Cameroon Diaspora Youth Glo­ bal Conference and Awards 2026 concluded on a high note. Organized by the United Council for Youth Em­ powerment (UCYE) International and the Cameroon Diaspora Youth Network (CDYN), USA, the conference held un­ der the theme "Youth Leadership, Diaspora Engagement and National Development”, marked a decisive shift in how diaspora contribution is fra­ med. It unfolded in two phases: a virtual global conference on May 23, 2026, which brought together over 200 participants from Cameroon, the Uni­ ted States and Europe, followed by an in-person Awards Ceremony on August 15 in Washington, D.C. Led by Fabien Ekukwe Lyonga, Pre­ sident of UCYE International and CDYN, USA, the May session examined how the diaspora can contribute beyond remittances, through invest­ ment, entrepreneurship, healthcare, education, and technology transfer. The August ceremony honored Ca­ meroonians and friends of Cameroon making tangible impact both at home and abroad. Awards were presented in 14 categories, including Youth Lea­ dership, Entrepreneurship, Healthcare, Education, Humanitarian Service, Me­ dia, Technology, Women's Leadership, and Arts and Culture. A major highlight of the awards ce­ remony was the signing of Memo­ randa of Understanding (MOUs), aimed at transforming the discussions and recognition into practical partnerships...
