CDC: Destruction of Esuke Palm Plantation Escalates

The saga on the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC) land hosting the Esuke Section of the Bota Palm Estate has escalated following the felling of more than 100 palm trees on August 26, 2026. Though the management of CDC decried the action of the supposed Muslim Community, the destruction of the young palm trees planted in 2016, continued unbated. Several chainsaws were mobilized to carry out the operation under tight security. Last Thursday, some 52 palms were cut down in the same plantation located along the Mutengene-Limbe road. The workers later carried placards brandished with protesting messages, adding that CDC instead need more land. The workers have joined the mana­ gement of the CDC to appeal for the intervention of the government to rescue the corporation which has been going through difficult moments in the past decade. CDC’s General Manager, Frankline Ngoni Njie in a recent interview, lamented that the palms which are in their prime production age were meant to feed the new mini-mill constructed in Moliwe. He explained that CDC depends now on plantations like Esuke which are operational for survival as most areas are still not accessible because of the armed separatists’ attacks.
