West Health Outreach: Thousands Receive Free Healthcare, Medication

Through the "Foumban 2026 Health Campaign," Young Peuple, YP, a youth-focused non-profit organization recently partnered with the University of Douala English-Speaking Medical Students Association, UDEMSA to offer one week of free specialized healthcare in Noun Division of West Region. Founded by Amatullah Ndam Njoya, YP’s health campaign that consulted thousands of patients was intended to inspire future medical professionals from the division. 

Over six intensive days, the initiative mobilized dozens of general practitioners, specialists, and medical students across seven simultaneous sites. They were the Centre Médical Maternité de Njinka; as well as health sites in Koupa, Koundoum, Njiketnkie, Mambain, Koukouet, and Njimom. The objective being to help bridge the critical healthcare gap in Noun Division. 

The warm reception was immediately visible in the turnout. From as early as 6:00 AM, patients gathered to register, undergo basic screening, and receive specialized consultations. Specialists included ophthalmologists, dentists, surgeons from Ascovime, dermatologists, and also healthcare partners from Best Healthcare India.

For months, a severe and relentless toothache had turned the simple act of eating into a daily ordeal for one of the patients. "I could not eat well because of a tooth. I found it difficult going to bed because of the pain from the said tooth,” the patient told reporters. Thank God, relief finally came when volunteer dentist Dr. Hemridge Achu Njuakeh treated the patient’s tooth and offered him not just his smile. But also his ability to live without pain, without spending a single FCFA.

The campaign received significant civic backing when the Mayor of Foumban, Hermine Patricia Tomaïno Ndam Njoya, paid an official visit to the Njinka site. Touring the various consultation stations and commending the seamless collaboration between the youth-led organization and local authorities.

The campaign’s impact extended beyond medical treatments to nurture the division’s future talents. On Saturday, August 15, 2026, Young Peuple hosted a mentorship panel in Maison de la Culture, Foumban titled "Do you hope to become a medical doctor, pharmacist, nurse?” Over 20 high school students and aspiring candidates gathered to engage with practising doctors, pharmacists, and medical students.
