From urban centers to suburban communities across the country, school administrators, teachers, and community leaders are working hard to ensure smooth operations.

With the official start of the 2026/2027 academic year scheduled for Monday, September 7, 2026, educational institutions across Cameroon are engaged in intensive preparations. From urban centers in Yaounde to suburban communities in the Mefou and Afamba Division of Centre Region, administrators, teachers, and community leaders are working to ensure smooth operations. With upgraded infrastructure and clear academic pathways for returning pupils and students.

Across The Board

An examination of preparations across primary, secondary, and evening learning institutions highlights key focus areas driving school readiness this year: flexible instruction models, career orientation, infrastructure development, and community-wide mobilization.

Hybrid Instruction

At Hardford Evening School - located in Petit Marché, Odza, Yaoundé - preparations are already active. Registration for the 2026/2027 academic year is ongoing, with specialized preparation classes for General Certificate of Education, GCE examination candidates already underway.

Recognizing the distinct scheduling demands faced by evening school learners, Principal Mr. Mbuwel Hilary has expanded the institution's hybrid educational model. Alongside traditional on-site instruction, the school operates ongoing online classes to accommodate working students and adults seeking academic advancement.

Simultaneously, administrative staff are managing daily inquiries from parents and prospective students. Seeking information for both the evening branch and the daytime division of Hardford International School.

Strategic Orientation

Beyond basic enrollment, the school has integrated post-examination counseling into its reopening strategy. Successful GCE Ordinary Level certificate candidates are receiving academic counseling regarding high school series selection. Aligning subject combinations with prospective professional fields. On the other hand, those who recently succeeded in the GCE Advanced Level certificate examination are provided transition advice for post-secondary choices.

While representatives from professional institutes and universities are actively holding orientation sessions on campus. To outline specialization options, technical tracks, and career advantages.

Infrastructure Upgrades

In Soa Subdivision of Mefou and Afamba Division in the Centre Region, Government Bilingual Primary School, GBP) Ebang 1, is focusing on infrastructure restoration and inclusive community outreach. Under the guidance of school staff, including Mrs. Njegani Sarah Mujar, the school has undertaken physical upgrades to establish an environment conducive to learning ahead of September 7, 2026.

A newly constructed administrative office is being prepared for basic office equipment. While key restoration efforts completed prior to resumption include repairing damaged benches, doors, and classroom seating. Thorough cleaning and sanitization of all classrooms and sanitary facilities. And securing essential teaching and learning materials for immediate distribution.

Community Mobilization

To combat school absenteeism and increase enrollment, GBPS Ebang 1 has launched a local sensitization campaign. Teachers and local stakeholders are engaging directly with families in Ebang 1 village to ensure every school-age child is registered. Reinforcing the baseline objective that no child should remain at home this academic year.

Pedagogic Alignment

As part of final preparations across the country, faculty resumption meetings are being convened to establish academic benchmarks and ensure full alignment with government regulations. At GBPS Ebang 1, administrative and teaching staff have already gathered for official resumption sessions.

Operational Readiness

These meetings serve to welcome newly posted personnel, outline operational frameworks, review pedagogical responsibilities, and assign timetables, classes, and teaching resources. Key focus areas include strictly implementing government-prescribed admission and registration protocols. Establishing standards for punctuality, and fostering unified educational strategies.
