Diplomacy:Outgoing Korean Ambassador Honoured

T he outgoing Korean Ambas­ sador to Cameroon, Nam Ki- Wook, who has come to the end of his diplomatic assi­ gnment in the country, has been of­ fered a State diner in his honour. It took place on September 3, 2026 at the Yaounde Hilton Hotel with the Ambassador being raised to the di­ gnity of Grand Officer of National Va­ lour. The official farewell dinner was chaired by the Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Cooperation with the Com­ monwealth, Felix Mbayu, on behalf of Minister Mbella Mbella and was at­ tended by several members of go­ vernment. In his toast at the diner, Minister Mbayu said the event seeks to ack­ nowledge not only the momentum the Ambassador generated throu­ ghout his fruitful stay, but also the steadfast commitment to strengthe­ ning ties between Korea and Came­ roon. “Your three-year tenure has been marked by milestones that have durably enriched our partner­ ship: the strengthening of high-level political dialogue, the conclusion of agreements facilitating diplomatic mobility, the consolidation of de­ fence cooperation, and the multipli­ cation of concrete initiatives in the fields of healthcare agriculture, digi­ tal transformation and human capa­ city development,” the Minister sta­ ted. It was also the tenure of Nam Ki-Wook that Cameroon participated at the First Korea-Africa Summit, held in June 2024, guided by shared commitments. Beyond formal meetings, the Minis­ ter added that for Cameroon, it is the tangible achievements that best show the impact of his work, notably the strengthening the emergency medical system, launching the se­ cond version of the Cameroon Online e-Procurement System, opening the Korea Program on International Agri­ culture Central Africa Office in Yaounde, building the Garoua refe­ rence hospital, developing irrigated rice farming in Mvangane, South Re­ gion, creating vocational training centres in Yaounde, Douala, and Sangmélima, an...
