Cameroon-African Development Bank: Resource Allocation, Risk Assessments Reviewed

This was the highlight of the audience Minister Alamine Ousmane Mey granted to the bank’s delegation last Tuesday, September 8, 2026, in Yaounde.
A ssessment of Cameroon's risk profile, which plays a key role in determining African Development Bank’s (AfDB) sovereign and non- sovereign financing for the country and the capital adequacy require ments of the bank’s portfolio is cur rently underway. This was the focus of the in-camera meeting that was held between The Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey and the AfDB delegation led by Afef Bouabene-Kallel, Director of the Financial Control Department, on September 8, in Yaounde, in the presence of Leandre Bassole, the bank’s Director General for Central Africa. Following the audience, Afef Bouabene-Kallel noted that such missions occur frequently across all member states to gauge overall engagement and financial standing for the bank’s operations in the country. In addition, the joint dele gation focused on the ongoing ma nagement and recovery practices of Cameroon's debt to AfDB. Since the launch of the AfDB’s Coun try Strategy Paper 2023-2028, Ca meroon’s annual borrowing capacity under the financial institution’s len ding window rose to FCFA 429.4 billion from FCFA 273.3 billion. The annual limit therefore increased by FCFA 156.1 billion, or 57.1 per cent. Over recent years, the AfDB, esti mates its commitments to Cameroon at FCFA 1,603.6 billion in 2026, up from FCFA 1,226.2 billion at the start of the strategy period.
